Journey to Logic (V2)

“Journey to Logic” in binary

This text is about my psychological journey from a “magical thinking” type of person to a pragmatic one who bases his actions and opinions on hard evidence and logical deductions.
I started improving the original Journey to Logic but I modified it so much I decided to post the result as a new version. By the way, the original “Journey to Logic” was my first attempt at writing poetry and my first language is not English (I’m pretty happy with the result though).
My mother didn’t have me baptized and she always told me I should make up my own mind but she believed in reincarnation and it was a very reassuring opinion to adopt so I believed in it too.
*Edit: When she read this she asked me to specify that now she is very science oriented, in big part because I always questioned everything and would only accept answers which seemed logical to me. And I want to specify that I was that way in big part because of how I was raised, with a strong emphasis on critical thinking, tolerance, getting all the facts and always keeping an open mind.*

In the beginning it’s only biological
Cells multiply fueled by chemicals
Feeding on every available nutrient
Homo sapiens become sentient

Abstract shapes we perceive
And faithfully we believe
Unaware how faith is naive
Brimming with excitation
No matter the explanation
Listening, all ears, in admiration

The universe starts to unveil
The individual takes more detail
A personality starts to brew
Perception becomes crucial
To our mind everything is new
Anything can seem beautiful
Reality depends on the view
And the viewer is unstable
Seeing a wavelength like blue
First off, seems magical
Unaware perceiving hue
Can as well seem horrible

As each sense sharpens
Our understanding deepens
Witnesses of life’s show
Over time becoming able
Learning we do not know
The meaning of impossible

Trying to make reasons of existence clearer
Knowing why and how starts to matter
Magic just doesn’t do the trick anymore
Really understanding has something more

Knowledge gradually provoking connections
From generic ape going through the motions
I started refusing simplistic explanations

Maybe it’s just normal evolution
But not asking beyond the question
Now feels like a waste, an aberration

Basically, a human capable of discerning
One who had just began learning
Almost totally unaware of life’s ruth
But compelled to find the truth
I decided to let go of my youth
To become a logical being
Trying to make sense of everything

I reached a state qualified as disillusioned
I couldn’t say exactly when or how it happened
But it can be more difficult to be happy
Harder to thrive when you know you’ll die eventually
I realized most people, to keep wanting to be,
have to believe their own lies almost unknowingly

There is an hypothesis about those who see as is
Depressive realism, developed by Alloy and Abramson
The ones who answer truthfully to life’s quiz
Will be faced with the depressing reality of their situation

I believe they are right as rain
Which is why I had to trick my brain
I thought it was a good thing to be awakened
But a mind conscious of too much becomes burdened
I chose a motivator to achieve inner peace
It quickly became my will’s main motor piece

Since I became logical, some time has passed
I had to change my reasons not to end it fast
I choose to believe I’ll realize what I envisioned
So the toll on my mind is lessened
I choose to believe my life won’t be pointless
I have to believe I won’t fade to emptiness
